What if looking for beauty every day was a natural part of your day? Do you think your mood and emotional well-being would benefit? Research suggests that, in fact, it would. The trick to finding beauty in our everyday lives is to look for it wherever you go. And be present enough to stop and notice.
Several months ago I was on a walk in Forest Hills, New York. I was walking at my usual morning ‘quick pace’. Making sure not to slow my pace, I quickly (pun intended) walked passed a man who had an easel set up on the sidewalk and was painting. As I approached I noticed he was staring across the street, looking down at his canvas, painting a bit, then looking up again. Even at the speed with which I rushed by, I could tell he was painting what appeared to be an ordinary scene of parked cars, buildings, people walking by, etc.
It was only after I past him that I realized how incredible what he was doing really was. He was clearly talented, he was clearly using his talent to enliven his life, and in so doing, he was bringing beauty to the mundane.
I did not stop that day several months ago, but on my most recent trip to the area, synchronicity was on my side. On a freakishly warm December day, at a different spot, this time seated, Weimin Mo, was again painting the mundane and finding great beauty. I stopped, chatted about his work and why he chooses to paint outdoors, and he gave me his card. If his work was inspirational, his site and story is even more so. I urge you to read his background and enjoy the work on Weimin’s site.
I breath, live and work to help myself and others achieve a life of success based in doing what they love, no matter how long it takes. Clearly Weimin is finally LivingTheSpirit.Today when he writes:
“As a retired loafer, I am able to devote all the time I want to make art. I feel like a man who, after twists and turns in life, finally marries a woman with whom he’s been head over heel in love for half a century.”
Dr. Success Challenge: Moment-by-moment be curious, embrace awe, have a sense of wonder about the mundane this week. Record how it makes you feel about your daily life. If it makes you feel better, keep doing it!
If you are so inspired, submit your story of never losing your dream at LivingTheSpirit.Today
Wishing you a Brave 2016, Andrea
