Crack may not grow on trees, but it cannot dim the light of greatness.
Picture this: panhandler on Fremont Street holding sign which reads: Crack Does Not Grow On Trees
I shook my head but the sign made me smile and I said to the young man holding the sign, “You have a good sense of humor.” The panhandler smiled back – flashing a few missing teeth a telltale sign of his crack use – and immediately added, “Good enough for a $1?”
Of course I told him no. I could not help him hurt himself. That is not what I do. That happened four days ago and I still think of that man, his sign, and pause to send him thoughts of strengths. I was so taken with his wit and quick response I also wondered what he could accomplish if he was not addicted and his natural strengths could develop and flourish. That may be taking the concept of personal development too far for you, but it the exact concept that keeps me going when the going gets tough.
The human spirit to achieve and flourish is strong and invincible. Our bad habits do their best to keep us down yet Marianne Williamson’s famous statement, “Your greatest fear is not that you are inadequate. Your greatest fear is that you are powerful beyond measure” is a reminder of our real truth.
