What does Gratitude Feel Like?

Gratitude is a positive emotion usually referring to a state of thankfulness or being thankful.  The definition of thankful is “conscious of benefit received.”  But what does it FEEL like to be thankful?  That was the question posed in my morning reading.

So I got, “I am thankful for a client order.”  “I am thankful for a TV appearance being booked.”  “I am thankful for getting a good deal on my airline ticket.”  But how exactly does all that feel?  How do I create the feeling of being thankful without actually having an event or situation occur to be thankful for?

The reason this is important is that the more you feel grateful, the more positive emotion you create, and the greater likelihood you will see and feel more positive emotion.  The positive result of feeling more positive emotions is well documented in books like Positivity

As Eric Butterworth wrote about gratitude in Spiritual Economics, “Remember, it is not a reactionary emotion but a causative energy.

Dr. Success Challenge:  Go ’cause’ some positive energy.  First stop and think, really think, about how gratitude feels for you.  Then without something positive thing occurring, remember to feel that feeling as often as positive during a day.  In my next post I will share what I discovered gratitude “feels” like for me.

With gratitude,
