Are you brave enough to Be The Hero? It just might be easier than you think! Author Noah Blumenthal’s just released book guides you through the day-to-day life of his main character’s thoughts, interactions and the consequences of those thoughts and interactions. Even though parables are not my preferred book reading or recommending genre (I like things more black and white), I signed on to help promote this book for several reasons which I will discuss later. What I really want to share is how much helping someone else achieve their goals helped me have an incredible week.
Dr. Success Challenge: Consciously choose to Be The Hero this week. Select someone whose work aligns with your strengths and values. Think of how you can promote their work to those in your sphere of influence. Take note of any residual outcomes your experience in yourself and/or your business.
Background: Noah recruited an army of personal and professional friends and acquaintances to support the purchase of books on his publication date, August 4, 2009. He set a professional goal to have his book make the various “bestseller” lists on Amazon, The New York Times, etc. He connected his success to the benefit of a non-profit, The Miami Children’s Hospital. Depending on the booking opening success, the hospital would receive a minimum of 25% to a maximum potential of 100% of the royalty from the book for that day. All in his army were asked to Tweet, post on Facebook, send emails and I personally purchased 10 books for clients. I happen to have a list of 5,000 Linkedin associations I write to about once every month or two about my work and upcoming programs. I choose to use my contact list for Noah’s book launch. Here are the results:
For Noah:
We accomplished every goal we had for Amazon.
* Top 20 in all books
* #1 in Business
* #1 in Self-Help
* #1 in Success
* #1 in Careers
We even made it up to #2 in Movers and Shakers (which I never knew existed before yesterday).
For the Miami Children’s Hospital:
So far they are to receive 50% of the sale of thousands of books. I say so far because the New York Times list does not report on a daily basis. If all goes as planned, they will get 100%!
For Me:
I made about 10 new connections and began the process of building potential business relationships. One client purchased services. A lost connection was found with a friend. And a funny miscommunication will be a part of my speeches in the not too distant future. All that from helping someone else achieve their goal.
Oh, and you should know, it physically and mentally felt great! Each email from Noah letting us know of his the progress toward his goals made me feel like I had actually achieved the goals myself. Many times we help others but have no idea if it made a difference. When we are fortunate to learn of the results, I will say it feels wonderful.
If you want to know why I recommend this book even though it is not usually my preferred book genre, please read my review on Amazon…and while you are there, go ahead Be The Hero…buy a book.
If you are fortunate enough to live in the beautiful Prescott Arizona area, watch me live Monday, August 10 discuss Be The Hero with Tonya and Lew on AM Arizona.
With appreciation, Andrea
