Passion for scratching an itch

“If you have an itch to do something, scratch it!  You may find your next passion.”

The words above are my paraphrasing of a power talk delivered by Bobby Williams, a successful retired business owner who is devoting is seventh decade to developing a deep spiritual nature — and sharing it.

As an Applied Positive Psychologist, I felt his simple advice, from someone who has lived long enough, created a lot, and shares even more, was some of the best advise I had heard all week.

Rather than lamenting the angst of not knowing what you are meant to do, no being sure if your will live long enough to ever again be excited about what you are doing, or whatever story you tell yourself as to why you don’t feel you are achieving in some area of your life — stop — and scratch that itch.   We all have those ‘itches’ we keep ignoring, sometimes hoping they will go away.

This week act as if you believe Bobby is right. “If you have an itch, scratch it. You just may find your next passion.”

Thank you Lou Rubin for the wonderful photo of “Passion” from a church in Spain October 2013.

Thank you Bobby!
