Meet Brian Clark.
Have you ever considered working with a business coach? In the video posted on this blog, you will meet Brian Clark. Brian is a man with a successful career as a massage therapist and associated healing modalities. He believes he is ready to try another career, maybe even coaching.
I got into business coaching because I loved owning and operating brick and mortar businesses, not because I dreamed of being a consultant or coach. I was introduced to psychology in college, but it was when I was reintroduced to the psychology of achievement in business, that something clicked for me.
I have always functioned from the premise that the better people behave and achieve their livelihood, the better they – and the world – would be. We invest so many hours of our lives – a minimum of 90,000 hours in a lifetime engaged in what we do for a living. As such, putting my love of business together with my desire to flourish in life gave birth to The Business of Flourishing.
If you ask me, the business of flourishing is the only business any of us should be in.
As a program, The Business of Flourishing is a comprehensive learning experience with one central purpose: Teach achievement-oriented individuals to integrate the proven attributes of positive psychology into their career and business. Why? So they experience success that allows them to flourish. What are the attributes of flourishing? Positive Emotions; Relationships; Engagement; Meaning and Achievement.
When I write a blog or create a video, my intention is to show you exactly what these attributes look like in real people with real goals and real lives. Here are some of the highlights from my meeting with Brian. Listen to his answers, but more importantly think about where you are and answer the same questions for yourself.
:30 Where are you and where do you want to go? Where do you want to be 90 days from now? (Engagement)
1:12 Where did your first inspiration for your current career come from? (Meaning)
3:50 What does love look like in your work? (Positive Emotions)
5:40 How do you want your work to impact others? (Relationships)
8:20 How can you grow where you are planted today?
9:10 What current talents will you take with you to your next career? (Achievement)
11:00 Are there things you know would help move you forward, AND you are not doing those things?
13:15 Is there something you are running away from?
14:10 What to do when you get the itch to change careers? Listen to the steps I list.
15:59 Even I make major business mistakes….What are the errors you have made and have learned from?
17:00 Make a list of things you know that would help you achieve, and you are NOT doing. Pick one to start with!
Let me close with an observation I made during the filming. Listening is an excellent skill we all should develop to deepen all our relationships.
Knowing what to listen for in executive coaching takes training, skill, knowledge, and experience. The barrier to entry is low. You determine how high you want to achieve when serving others.
