Do you agree with this next sentence? There may be more than 10 ways to connect, work and thrive but in the summertime when the livin is easy, it can feel as though every plan, person, and opportunity is on hold due to vacation.
Do you feel like your sense of urgency is being met with everyone’s autoresponder informing you of their vacation? Vacation! During this time of year, I find myself yelling at my computer, “Vacation! I have work to do (or a job to get, or a critical piece of information I need). Do you know what I am talking about? Or are you on vacation?
Here is how I handle it. I remind myself to relax and remember “where you put your focus is where you get your results.” If you put your daily energy on everyone who has not returned a message you are missing an opportunity to put your energy into calling or writing the next set of people who just may have what you need.
Career Transition Expert and founder of ConnectU, Johanna Wise, recently published the 10 Ways To Enjoy Your Career Transition – especially in the summertime. It is a list of that helps you focus your energy, so you create and attract more of what you do want and less of what you don’t want (such as stressful thinking about your situation).
Johanna specializes in career transitions of every kind. I have found her work dovetails beautifully with everything I know and teach about how to center your thinking and find the support you need in every aspect of your business and life. Read her 10 Ways to Enjoy Your Career Transition regardless of your career status. 10 Ways to Enjoy Your Career Transition
by Johanna Wise
- Take an honest look at yourself. What are your strengths, weaknesses, and skills? How do these influence – positively or negatively – your transition?
- Step up your self-care. Major changes are physically and emotionally taxing. You need self-care now more than ever.
- Engage your curiosity. What is going wrong or right? What can you do better? What works really well?
- Focus on what you want and less on what you don’t want. Keep moving ahead rather than running away. Keep your eye on the prize.
- Find support. Since your transition affects your family as well, it may be best to seek the outside support of friends and professionals.
- Work on your thoughts. Calm your fears and reinforces your sense of hope and happiness.
- Reassure or avoid those who are threatened by, or jealous of, your change.
- Create your own rite of passage. Ceremony and ritual help with all transitions.
- Let go of how things were “supposed to be” and accept “how things are.” Find appreciation for what is.
- Keep things in perspective. Or try a new perspective. Don’t get stuck. Remember, the only constant is change.
Before I close I want to share easy cliff notes of the above list using the concept of flourishing and PERMA in Positive Psychology. No. 6, is the P for positive emotions; No. 1, is E for engagement; No. 5, is R for relationships; No. 8, is the M for meaning; and, the A for achievement is actively engaging in all 10 Tips.
